1) Oct 16, 17- Watergirl Quilts Prescott, ON- I am teaching Free Motion Quilting with the Mondrian Mini Quilt & Thread Painted Seasonal Tree, lots of great tips and excitement about these techniques in celebration of the stores anniversary! Register here! Images of the projects shown below:
2) Oct 20- New Millennium Quilters Guild, Walkerton, ON. I will be coteaching with the bag lady! My sister Alison on this date - see the picture of the "organizer tote" below- You could use this pretty little tote for anything- sewing supplies, makeup, treats or whatever.  It is fun to make and master some zipper skills! 3) Oct 24, 25- Rose Cottage Quilts, La Salle, ON -* Note: This event actually starts on the 23 as their 20 year Anniversary!  I will be in attendance on Oct 24 & 25th only. Open House Event Oct 23, 24 with Open House Sale, Make & Takes and Demos including domestic and long arm machines. I'll be there to demo on the 24th, gorgeous BERNINA Machines.

]]><![CDATA[Summer Activities]]>Tue, 29 Sep 2026 17:13:56 GMThttps://www.quiltingintheloft.com/blog/summer-activitiesI know we are into fall🍂, however to give my absence on this blog context I need to explain some summer activities🚚 I have been involved in..... they were not sewing related but will lead to some great times with sewing in the future.
First of all we purchased a new home🏠 in Port Sydney, ON!  For those of you who want to say "where the heck is Port Sydney?"  You know I'm going to tell you ... it's about 20 minutes south of Huntsville in between Bracebridge and Huntsville, ON.  See the pic of my new home below:

 This is a big move for us! It's 3 1/2 hours away from our home in Waterloo, ON, but it is closer to 4/5 of our grandchildren with land for my retired hubby to landscape and garden.👨‍🌾  It's further North so the potential for longer winters and snow is completely a sure thing. ⛷️❄️ This was a huge decision for us for many reasons about which I will not go into detail, the list is long.

We are happy with the end result and of course the space is there for my studio.  This means more sewing projects, quilting with my BERNINA Long Arm & domestic sewing machines, sewing/quilting related blog posts, events and more in the future. 🧵 It also means we have gorgeous wildlife 🦌 all around us as the house is in a very wooded area and the fall foliage is stunning.🌿  We are looking forward to the other seasons as well and did manage some camping 🚙 this summer, amidst the chaos.

Along with this big move, we had to stage and sell our much loved home in Waterloo.🏘️   This was so much work and the move out, staging and move in to our new home made for an EXHAUSTING summer.  Notice the caps on the word exhausting! We are thankful for the help of family and friends.👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

I will miss my friends, neighbours and quilting friends in Waterloo along with my younger daughter and her family in Elmira but of course there will be frequent planned visits.💕
Sewwwww there you have it, this is why I have been absent on this blog since Quilt Canada, You will see my posts on Instagram @quiltingintheloft about Quilt Canada🍁we literally were thick in the process of selling and moving post this event.  I'm back in action sewing and preparing & will have new posts up tomorrow about some very exciting fall events.

Today I fly to Winnipeg to experience the honour of teaching for the Canadian Quilters Association in Winnipeg, Manitoba.  Below are some pics of what I will be teaching. Thread Painted Coneflower, Ruler Work Mandala & Free Motion Quilting  I am hoping to post some pictures of the action at the conference, the vendor mall, the show and of me in action with my students.
I am so excited to share my ideas as a BERNINA Brand Ambassador and enjoy working with Mettler Thread while demonstrating. I will also be featuring Silly Moon (a Canadian Brand!), BERNINA, Angela Walter and Amanda Murphy Rulers for domestic machine quilting.  Both BERNINA Canada and Mettler Thread are sponsoring this event.
Not only will students learn in my classes, they will also be eligible for many door prizes up to $165.00 in value!  Seeing the best of Canadian Quilters in the show, having a shopping venue of quilty goodness, being inspired and visiting with friends will be so much fun!
