Domestic Engineering

A Domestic Engineer is the one who executes household chores; they are a member of the family that does this as a part of their responsibility. A Domestic Engineer can carry out anything from cleaning to doing everyday jobs for the family. (Source: www.bestjobdescriptions.com)

Yesterday, I had to take a break from my quilting/teaching/blogging/pattern designing jobs to be a domestic engineer! But this time the "household chore"  was jam making.  I am sharing this with you because I can and because it was a fun diversion :)
I have made lots of jam in the past and it was like getting back on a familiar bicycle.  But wow, does it ever take a lot of sugar! I actually cut down a bit on the sugar and gave it more time to boil and gel set.

This time of the year gets busy with holiday plans, family visits and our garden and we have tons of black raspberries.  See a pic of some of them below:

Too many black raspberries what to do?

16 cups of black raspberries = one big pot of jam!

5 pints and 7 jelly jars!
Enjoy all the fruits of your labour today and give yourself credit for all the work you do for your family whatever it may be!
Happy Tuesday
❤️

Hi Robin, I make freezer jam every year & was finding the recipe had WAY TOO MUCH sugar too. Then I found Pectin instead of Certo. It uses 1/2 the sugar & double the fruit to make the recipe, it even tastes 100% better, much better for you too.

Hi Mabsy, I am glad I am not the only one! I could not believe it and actually cut the sugar in 1/2 and used Redpath Quickset (sounds like concrete!!). I also used lots of fruit and it worked great my jam is nice and thick! I will try pectin another time for sure. Thanks I really wondered when I saw the Certo recipe! Yikes

I am also a Domestic Engineer in our family. One household chore that I really enjoyed is painting the room of my sister, as well as my bedroom. My sister loves the color pink so I painted her walls into a blue sky full of pink clouds. On the other hand, I love the color blue as well as the stars, so I painted my ceiling into a dark blue sky full of sparkling stars. I really enjoyed doing it, and I am sure that you also enjoyed doing your household chore. By the way, the jam looks delicious! I will surely make it at home.
