Monthly Mini For February

3/7/2019

Hi everyone, I certainly have missed the time to share with you what I am up to.  I am late writing about this mini quilt, however it was completed in February! There are some changes happening in my life and therefore I have been busily completing other deadlines prior to sharing news with my blog followers.

The changes I speak of are very happy ones!  My daughter, son-in-law and baby grandson are moving back to Ontario from BC and are moving in with us temporarily until they find their way again.  I am excited but it means that I have been working my tail feathers off getting ready to accommodate them.

What this means in my quilting world?  I had 6 long arm quilts to finish in the month of February alone!  Along with teaching, sample making, organizing, long arm training with my youngest daughter, general house work and working on some upcoming writing for QUILTsocial.com , I have not had a minute to  write on my own blog.

Tomorrow, I fly out to Edmonton to assist my daughter with the baby and to bring them home on a flight to Ontario. My son-in-law will follow with a truck and trailer of their household goods. Of course I am very excited.  So this is all good news!!

Below is a pic of the stack of quilts I have been working on :

Now lets talk about the February Mini Quilt, I decided to use up some piecing left over in my scrap bin and challenged myself a bit to make a mini from it.  It is really quite simple but I just wanted to use up some strip pieced colours and see what I could do with it.  The below is what I started with:

Hmmm what to do with this and make a February mini quilt?

Yep this could work :)

Almost a bargello, happy accident?

Machine appliqued to a background with a smocking style stitch, fused with Heat n Bond Lite

Close up of the applique stitch, it will prevent the edges from fraying

Repeated the same smocking style machine stitch to apply the binding on the front, fast and effective!

In between snuggles with Eli (my grandson) and catching up with the kids, I will try to share more of what is happening in my quilting world. Stay tuned also for lots of fun ideas I will be blogging about with QUILTSocial.com and sharing on my blog here at www,quiltingintheloft.com.

Happy Thursday ❤️
