My sister & I attended Quilt Canada in Halifax in early June and had a wonderful time helping out at the BERNINA Canada booth & visiting the vendor mall and of course seeing the quilt show. Quilt Canada in Halifax this year had a challenge quilt for charity sponsored by Trend Tex Fabrics and the Theme was "Making Waves". I purchased the fabric kit & the theme came to me in the form of my middle grandson Jude saying to me as I walked through their bathroom door whilst they were making a mess "Grammie we are making waves". My artist statement read: The most important job of all we have is to raise happy, healthy and well adjusted children. My three grandsons reminded me of the theme when they exclaimed "Grammie We're Making Waves" as I came into the bathroom. Their unique exuberance and joy gives me hope that they will be the effective wave makers of the future and excellent citizens. Some additional details shown below are : the quilt label, iridescent sequins added to depict water, a mini quilt on the wall, free motion quilting/thread painted comic versions of my grandsons (yes my oldest Eli was wearing a scuba snorkel!), appliquéd fabrics & satin stitching. This little quilt measured about 20 x 20". Although this little quilt was not a winning challenge quilt, I felt the concept was very original, it followed all of the rules, it made money for charity and it garnered several bids ( I bided/bought it back to myself because of the personal nature of it). Oh yes and the giggles my sister & I shared while trying to bid it back. I consider this a win! It now resides in my daughters bathroom.😊🌊
