Hello Everyone!  Happy New Year!!

I have been away on vacation to Sutton, Quebec on a ski getaway.  We enjoyed staying at a cosy chalet slope side and although I did not ski, I did enjoy pondering my current hexi project and designing a new block.

I missed out on my Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday posts and so I thought I would share my newest drafting (while on vacation) and what I call "Quilters Zen Doodling".  The block below was basically a hexi with shapes drawn into it in a duplicate manner so that the "isosceles triangles" (all sides equal) would create a kaleidoscope with colours inspired by fireworks.
Picture
Step 1-Draw a hexagon and draw lines to get 6 Isosceles Triangles and cut them apart
Picture
Step 2-Draw identical shapes in each triangle - a light box is useful to trace from the first triangle you drew shapes into first
Picture
Step 3- Start colouring it
Picture
Step 4- Finish colouring it!
Picture
Step 5-Turn each triangle equally to audition other kaleidoscoping layouts!

Step 6- Turn the triangles again to see another kaleidoscoping layout!!
Imagine the possibilities!!
  • The connecting corners for this block could be done in a consistent neutral (black, grey, white or bright neutral) to create a secondary pattern.
  •  Or you could simply connect the hexies!
  • You could also cut each shape out of card stock or template material and English Paper Piece this to make a very dynamic block.
  • Really the colour possibilities are so endless.

If your New Years Fireworks inspire you, I encourage you to send us pics of the blocks you design or create.  I will share with our readers.

I hope everyone enjoys a Healthy and Happy New Year and may all your goals for 2016 be achieved!!

The standard needs full arm and leg protection, meaning that t-shirts and shorts do not meet the requirements of EN <a href="https://www.evernote.com/shard/s497/sh/0960c248-65e9-4668-ad03-d9b1910f45d3/36de0d8dafde8f3ad18dea04b549ff97l">ISO 11612
