It would be remiss of me if I did not share a pumpkin block on the week of Halloween, so here goes.

The block shown, is a mini block and was actually made into a coaster with felt on the back of it. You could use this block and make it into a mini quilt or read more to see other ideas.

It's a quick project,
Here's how to do it:
  • Start with a rectangle of cotton muslin or foundation fabric and referring to the picture below, cut the centre of the pumpkin fabric first (use the approximate centre shape shown below), lay it on the foundation  fabric right side facing up, pin it and sew from the center on all five sides, sew and flip, crazy patch style. If you know how to do the quilt as you go method, this would also work for this block.

  • To make a 12 x 12" pumpkin block:  You will need a  12.5 wide  x 8.5 tall pumpkin rectangle section and a  12.5 wide  x 4.5 tall stem section.  For a coaster size you would want to have a 5.5 wide x 4" tall pumpkin section and a 5.5 x 2.5" stem section
  • Allow space to put triangles of background fabric in all 4 corners of the pumpkin rectangle to give it a round shape
  • Sew a stem section as shown above refer to the picture and sew the stem section to the pumpkin section, pretty, easy, fun and festive!
