The time has come and I am out in beautiful British Columbia assisting my daughter in her transition to motherhood. We have been doing yoga and walking daily to get this labour started and it has not happened yet (her due date is actually March 18). "Crafty" Prep for BabyI thought I would share both my daughter and son in laws' crafty preparation for baby. Some of it is quilty, some wood work, some purchased and thoughtful items to make their nursery very special. Let's start with wood work. My son in law is a talented woodworker and he made a really special piece of wooden wall art for his new baby. He painted, stained and wood burned it to provide a very special message to his little one...... Have I got your curiosity ? Check out his work below: Another of his painted and wood burned wall art, this one was made for their home and not for the baby but I thought I would share it with you because it is so beautiful. See below: My daughter Katie shown below, made the lovely hexi quilt below for her baby to be. Check out the quilting, she is relatively new to machine quilting and English Paper Piecing, she did such a great job! The rug they purchase is indicative of their life style, it's all about the outdoors, mountains, wildlife, camping, hiking and fishing. The crib (provided by Chad's Parents) is a mini crib because their home is small and right now it's in their bedroom , so adorable! The baby supply organization of course will be endless, however they have thought of a clever idea for a tiny home that is moveable. If they are changing baby or bathing baby, they can move products/supplies around. It is a basic utility cart from IKEA but such a great idea. See below: Some natural watercolour paintings painted as gifts by my husband (and grandpa to be Rick) prior to baby. These make a great addition to baby's room. See these below: I gave you a sneak peak of the baby quilt/wallhanging at the top of this blog post and it is currently hanging in the baby's room. Made by myself, I had purchased the pattern at the most recent quilt show in Waterloo. I left out the pattern in my studio purposely quietly to see if my daughter liked it and .......she loved it. I then had to get all of the fabric from the quilt shop and they still had it (lucky us!). The quilt was quilted on my long arm with a leaf free motion pattern. After all Bears are in the woods! Bringing it all together ! See the picture below: I hope you are having a great Saturday and Happy St. Patrick's Day!🍀🍀🍀
Hopefully our wee Leprechaun will arrive soon :) I hope everyone had a great week and you are enjoying this rainy and windy weather here in Southwestern Ontario! To wile away the time this week and I am laughing at this..... I was able to complete and square a quilt for a customer, teach a little, guide a little, make some items for an upcoming craft show, bake a little, visit with family and friends at the St Jacob's market and finish a quilt challenge mini quilt. The only thing, I could not fit in was exercise and some pattern designs. I will hope for better luck next week in these departments! It was a great time despite the crazy weather to get to work. I'm sharing some pics below of my projects this week except the Challenge Quilt as I cannot show it to you until January..so please stay tuned on that one. Have a great weekend, Happy Halloween and please don't eat too much of the sweet stuff, you are already sweet enough!! TGIF stands for "Thank God Its Finished" I am finished with:
Well the answer to this is I am helping my niece Ashley out with a craft sale in November - all of these items (with the exception of the quilt) are Quiltingintheloft original designs. Therefore, once I get the patterns completed, they will be available in the shop section, some free patterns and some at an affordable price. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and....... Happy Canadian Thanks Giving !! I have 3 nieces expecting babies, we all go through phases in life . . . raising kids, attending birthday parties, weddings, showers etc. For me its babies, babies and more babies--Bring it on! I love these little bundles of joy, they bring so much life to our families. So below is # 1 Quilt for Benjamin- son of Laura and Stephen- the quilt says it all. I have 2 more baby quilts on the go and I am so sure they will not be my last ones. Stay tuned for more pics. It is my own original design- no pattern needed- the letters are strip pieced and appliquéd and the quilt was quilted on my long arm with a generous meander pattern
The completed quilt! Thread painting on a long arm? Who Knew? This sunflower is appliquéd at this point on a strip pieced quilt that was constructed from a jelly roll, I then thread painted and quilted it as you go on my long arm- such fun! I named it Having a Heat Wave as the colours are hot and Sunflowers grow in the hottest part of the year here at least. See more pics below Its been a while as Spring has finally arrived!!
I've been busy gardening (which means cleaning flower beds and planting annuals for me) I love colour!! On April 27, 2015, I showed my quilts and " My Quilting Journey" in a Trunk Show at Elmira Needle Sisters- a lovely bunch of ladies! Happy to pay it forward!!! The above post is one of my recent quilts, It is an made from an Indigo Jelly Roll with fused, appliquéd flowers and is called -Warm and Indigo - stay tuned for more and more. I also recently attended a workshop with Laura Wasilowski from "The Chicago School of Fusing" from which I am now a graduate! Ha, Ha!! I will post this quilt as soon as my hand stitchery is completed. Complete with trapunto snow flakes between each 8 pointed star block, machine and hand embroidered snowflakes and buttons on the border and sequins on the snowflakes. BRRR its cold outside.
The Project i spoke about before "Snowy" is on hold because of a malfunction with my embroidery machine (to be serviced) so - - -there is no such thing as no project on the go for me and therefore the my quilt "Berries and Cream" is on my long arm frame- more pictures to share as I progress! Not to worry, I will share "Snowy" again when I can finish my embroidered snow flakes. |
